FRIEDRICH EBERT STIFTUNG

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) was founded in 1925 as a political legacy of Germany's first democratically elected president, Friedrich Ebert.
Ebert, a Social Democrat from a humble crafts background who had risen to hold the highest political office in his country, in response to his own painful experience in political confrontation had proposed the establishment of a foundation to serve the following aims: - furthering political and social education of individuals from all walks of life in the spirit of democracy and pluralism; facilitating access to university education and research for gifted young people by providing scholarships; contributing to international understanding and cooperation.

The Foundation, which was banned by the Nazis in 1933 and not re-established until 1947, continues today to pursue these aims in all its extensive activities. As a private cultural non-profit institution, it is committed to the ideas and basic values of social democracy.

The work of IKS is also supported by an Advisory Board including Kosovar and international analysts and practitioners. Since its inception IKS work has focused on issues of governance, economic development, urban planning, corruption in post-war reconstruction, education, Kosovo’s image problem and environmental issues. IKS is also part of ESI-inspired network of think-tanks across South East Europe.

STUDENT RESOURCE HUB PRISHTINA

The objective of the Resource Hub, established at the University of Prishtina on March 2007, is to contribute to channeling youth protest energy, for students in particular, into constructive involvement in youth development and decision making processes.

The hub provides innovative approaches to youth work for youth workers and policy makers, for example peer education and mentoring of young people. Furthermore, the hub serves as contact points for international exchange and also opens a window of mutual exchange between the University of Prishtina and different international universities.
The hub also offers a venue for the participation of student and youth organizations in policies that affect their lives, for example the reform of the education system, interactive and distance learning, building self esteem, conflict management, development of volunteer and community service skills, healing approaches to trauma, human rights education, changing attitudes and behaviors, and positive role modeling.
