Have you ever been to Kosovo? Have
you thought about going to Kosovo? Do you still remember pictures and
news reports from the Kosovo war (1999) and the Independence
festivities (February 2008)? Back in August 2009 we came up with the
idea to make a documentary about young people in Kosovo, as part of a
new project called “Advocacy for Young People of Kosovo”.
Our research gave us a clearer picture of the situation in Kosovo and helped us to develop a framework. for the documentary . This framework was fluid, however, because we were eager to use the documentary to talk to and get to know young people in Kosovo, and build relationships of mutual acceptance. We chose to film in Prishtina on February 17 2009, during the week of the festivities for Kosovo’s Independence Day.
Three months after the filming was complete, and having cut and edited the material, we presented our work in the form of a 22 min. and 16 sec. long documentary . The documentary premiered on May 19th in Prishtina at the conference “The Youth as Promoter of the European Union Integration of Kosovo”. Our aim was to reach a big international audience in Europe and elsewhere; to create a new bridge of communication between young people in Kosovo and their peers in the European Union; and to bring a breath of fresh air from Kosovo on the documentary scene. We were therefore glad to be able to share the results of our work on such a platform.
We were and still are, willing to think young; to get to know Kosovo; and to accept it as an integral part of Europe. Now it’s your turn, dear visitor, to undertake the fantastic trip … A po vjen (me ne) n’Prishtinë? - Wanna come (with us) to Prishtina?
